Buckingham Palace has been the official residence of the Queen for a long time. It is also the main palace of the country where numerous receptions and events of national importance are held. It is considered to be the symbol of power and authority. In August and September, when the queen leaves Buckingham Palace, the part of the palace is opened for visitors. The queen’s departure sign is the absence of the English flag above the building. The visitors can visit 18 rooms, the ballroom, the throne hall and the art gallery. Here one can see works by Rubens, Rembrandt and other classics, wonderful porcelain, old English and French furniture. The tourists are always attracted by one of the oldest ceremonies - the changing of the guard. The royal guards are dressed in red suits and bear hide caps. The ceremony lasts 45 minutes and starts at 11.30.
